Low riding dust shoe

Has anybody thought about or designed a dust shoe that basically rides just above or on the sheet board that you are cutting.

I am thinking of cutting small pieces of 3 mm MDF and have the possibility of them lifting with a 1.5mm spiral upcut bit.

any thoughts

I was thinking of making it from sintra or the like with PU underneath for it to slide on.

I believe you are talking about a pressure foot. I haven't used one but have heard of them.

I built my own I used some colorcore scrapes for the foot and plexi for the plate.

This is for the Z axis, i like the idea of attaching it with magnets.
Using of clear pcv is a option instead of using the brushes.

The alternative that you probably want is something like this:

This type should work better, the downside is that it´s really better to not have any
collision or wrong thickness of the board, so it´s not for everyone.

This is a "pressure foot" with dust collection for a Multicam 1000 series machine. WORKS! The foot is spring loaded and has a delrin pad on the bottom for constant contact with the sheet of material being cut for the scenario discussed.

I owned one for many years and can say it was one of the best features on my Multicam.

Thanks Jerry and Sean both are exactly what I am looking now just need to design exacly what I need as the machine that it is going onto has the ram and slide for the dust shoe on the right of the spindle.

If I was to rotate the Multicam unit to the right orientation the suction hose would come out under the gantry.

Sean how did you select your springs did you use a formula or was it by trial and error.

one other issue that we have on this machine is that the whole unit needs to drop 50mm below the nose of the tool holder to accomadate an ATC.

I was able to get a very flexible - and light - dust collection all around the table with a single little swing arm on the ceiling.

ATC challenge.
Go to multicam's website and do some research. The machine I had did have an ATC option with this shoe. I haven't a clue how it worked to clear away for a tool change.

The dust shoe / Pressure foot arrived from the MultiCam/MatCam distributor here in OZ

Took a couple of hours to install and had to wait a day for the ducting to arrive it's all up and running made a new smaller foot ie less of a hole as we still lost some small pieces.

The ATC has been removed now as it was a trade off better machining or a couple of minutes resetting the cutter the latter won.

Will look at getting smaller diameter hose to run all the way back to the dust extraction later.

After a couple of weeks of use I love this pressure foot. I have not lost a part since using it.

Installed on the z axis, it had to be relocated as the old dust foot was on the right.

It came with two collars one for the brush and one for the pressure foot. As the hole was to big I cut a new one from the nylon chopping board. (now to explain the round hole)

It's not the most inexpensive - but works super well.
