Can we convert the mechmate to be a 3d printer? I haven't looked into this yet just thought I would get some feedback first.

Thanks

Justin

Justin,
I think this could be done, as the 3d printers are nothing more than light duty cnc routers with a heated extruder end. So you should be able to make an extruder hot end for the MM. The only other problem I might foresee is if the software will work ok with the drivers we use. Dont take this as gospel, as I have not done a lot of research on these but my gut is saying it should be able to be done.

it would work but very slow. laser cutters and 3d printers require very high speeds and acceleration to be profitable, you don't want to leave a mechmate printing for 48 hours :)

investigate more on http://shop.seemecnc.com/

and look for Hoss on cnc zone, he is now seriously printing after all the cnc milling machine modifications.
