I saw this on ebay. I wondered if anyone knows what build this is and if it's documented here.

Darin,
It's MM #5. My old machine. The advertisement for that machine is very incorrect.
It has a 5HP Porter Cable 7518 Router, the z - axis is a custom 36" stroke unit with cable assist for sculpting foam. A 4th axis attachment for 48" x 48" x 96" foam blocks is integrated under the table top surface for LARGE statue fabrication.

This machine was bought at auction when the company I worked for/built it for went bankrupt leaving me without payment for this asset. So, it's being sold by the 2nd owner clearly for a handsome profit if he got the asking price. I think he paid 3500.00 for it at auction.

It's only worth about 4-6k in it's current condition (not the 12K asking price)

I still have sour grapes about loosing this machine, but it is well built and really a one-of-a-kind for the right foam fabricator.

I thought that was your old machine.

Sean,
Thanks for the info. I would definitely be interested at a reasonable price, but at the current buy it now I will continue with my plan to build myself. This was exactly the information I needed to decide if I want to pursue this any further.

I'm sorry to hear you lost it without compensation. Knowing that I would feel like I slighted you if I bought it.

That machine cost me exactly 6,847.18 plus labor to build in 2007 that included the computer, Mach3, LazyCam license.. The 4th axis and extended z was added later for about another 1000.00.
Great machine - but WAY overpriced.

Well, if they added "smreish signature edition" to the description it would be worth another $5152.82, wouldn't it? ;)

It's interesting that the headline states that it includes AutoCad...

Through, could the less than 100 hours exact ?
The sacrificial table is not a lot carved...
If I lived in USA, I would consider this offer.

...5,700 fair - actually a pretty good value knowing all I do about that machine.
I'd give him 1500 cash right now if he would take it.

Remember, that is just the opening bid. He may have a higher reserve price.

The good price for anything is the price you get when it's sold. ;)
It can be sold at any price. Depending only of the seller pleasure.

I saw that item on eBay and was contemplating buying it. It's not too far from where I live but his lack of description of the machine leaves something to be desired. I had no idea it was a 4-axis machine.

Read my build threads on Machine #5 build, Orlando, Florida. You will get all the detail you need about that machine.

I guess it did not sell. Too much money in my opinion.

I am just starting a build about an hour from Orlando so I made an appointment to inspect this machine and saw it on Friday. With my limited knowledge, I think I may have seen some possible "issues". There was some rust and some corroded spots on the x axis rails which might not be a big deal but there was also a bit of play in the gantry. Just a little rattle that I didn't expect. Also the spindle was resting on the spoil board as if the z axis motor was not able to hold the spindle up when switched off. For some reason I didn't get to see the machine run..... These things I saw could be normal wear and tear for all I know but it was enough for me not to make any offers. Smreish: Great job! Yes, the seller is in the foam business and the machine did have a very tall z axis. The ebay ad expired last night with zero bids. The seller was very nice but indicated that he would not consider less than $5700 so I guess I will continue with my own build.
