Can any one tell me why to use the 4 to 1 reduction drive vs direct drive.......will it run slower but have more torque.

Mike, it will run slower, have more torque, smoother movement, and greater accuracy. Since there is an upper limit on practical speed based on the tool (bit size, type, spindle speed, spindle HP), it is a net win - the machine works better and can cut more material faster.

Press the "Go Advanced" button below the Message box.

Then press the "Manage Attachments" box.

Remember that pics need to be small to upload them, so a max of 650x650 on Jpgs.

2 inch square aluminum tubing with half inch spacing for clamping and waste material to fall through......with nylon spacers, and held on by stainless teck screws from the under side......kind of a expensive deck but it looks cool!

Hey, Mike. When I tried that link, I do not have permissions to the file. You may try Vimeo to upload your videos to and to then share links. It is free, with a limitation on the size of video you upload per week. Oh, and don't worry, I understand the 8 year timeframe! ;)

Mike,

Congratulations on your progress. You're cutting, you've got paint. All you need is to add MechMate logos and you're ready for a Serial Number.

By the way, you can also paste a LINK directly to your Post. Just "highlight the text" you want users to click, select the LINK Icon (World with a paper clip) and paste your link. Like this Link to Mike's MechMate cutting foam. (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BxtlX_7CMRknZ2PyodccqjG_3ApQ5AuS/view?ts=5d40dbd1[/URL])

that looks awesome Mike, congratulations!
the video link is still not working for me, permissions look good but for some reason the video just hangs when I hit play... or it says an error has occured
What is the story with the plasma? that does not look like it is going to be for foam relief! ;) .... are you planning a removable pan for the table?

mike nelson
Fri 02 August 2019, 17:39
Thanks John! On post #27 try John Higgins link.....should work. Yes... change of plans, I added braces and now it should be stronger. I am going to have a removable aluminum waterbed table that should be able to be changed out in about 10 minutes with help from the water storage under the table bed that will have about 8 psi for under 2 minute fill of the waterbed. I still want to make a waterjet table.....just need to find a extra $35,000 hiding somewhere for the pump and then i should be good to go!

jhiggins7
Sat 03 August 2019, 05:37
Wow...a MechMate waterjet! That would be a first. Are you planning to make a "removable waterbed" plasma table and then follow that with a waterjet? Should be very interesting.

Yes John, that would be my plan. Guillermo from Venezuela (Meckmate member) has a thread that he started about his waterjet build......i wonder if he ever finished it?

Hey Mike,

Congratulations on earning Serial Number #132. Love your build. Looking forward to a MechMate Water Jet.

Here's the Updated Builder's Log (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SDSq8C8mQKJzp0oTrXtHcTYXp_QmFlYev9zRc1X2nZE/edit?usp=sharing) with your entry added. You're cutting dimensions seem extensive. Please let me know what they are so that I can add them to your log entry.
