Tried the technique with my small router using 5.4mm MDF. After the second try I got it, first one I made the gaps of 5.2mm and they were too tight, then I made the gaps 5.6mm and they meshed nicely.

It needs some more sanding, but its a nice object nevertheless:

Fabrice, models look great, one suggestion, using edges of other shape than rounded or plain 90degrees adds a lot of machining time, they look great on the screen but take a long time to machine.
Just a comment, Im not saying its impossible to cut what you designed.

Pablo,

I'm struggling with the same issue. Trying to design around the issue, but still in the design stage as of today. When I finish designing the base for a burl table I'm currently working on, I'll let you know. The creative process is a slow one for myself, but I never said I was fast. :o

Tue 07 September 2010, 05:16
nice!

One comment, I made many experiments with this method and there is a "problem" when you do designs like the last one, wood thickness needs to be very uniform because you get either sloppy joints or parts are very difficult to insert into each other after you inserted a few.

Do you recall the ball I made? I started assembling from the center, the parts on the outside had to be hammered in place, I used just 0.2 mm over the material thickness for the slots. I tried a little more and the joints weren't as good.

fabrun
Tue 07 September 2010, 07:14
good to remember pablo
the cutting file is perfect but the cnc not (i'm exagerate off course)
the man who use it have to master his cnc

Is the 4 Wheeler Rocker a flat pack? I have a few sheets left over and I think my son will love it.

Regnar I can approve Fabrice as a great guy and artist! He has helped me termendously and his files are great! He does them in mm so specify imperial. He also does custom pieces per your request. I'm one happy camper with his work.

Take care!! :-)

Hey guys I just wanted everyone to know that Fabrices Models are pretty nice. He was very quick about getting me the 3d Models and DXF file. Infact about 5 minutes after payment. Looks like after nesting the Quad is going to take 1 1/2 sheets of plywood. I will be fitting this project in a little at a time. I have about 6 months before my son can even use it. I will take pictures along the way and posting them up here.
