I have sourced the vendors around my area and have a pretty good price for the full options plus the skate parts and couple extra parts. All parts are beautifully laser cut and bent. The extra parts are the 4 pcs of 10 10 324 End Closing Plate and the 4 pcs of 10 10 334 Foot Closing Plate. The steel sheets are all in fractional sizes per the optional list. The price is $370 + shipping. I need atleast 5 people to commit. Any takers? I'll ship anywhere in the US just give me your zip to calculate the shipping.

Let me know and I'll get it rolling!
Thanks,
Travis

So far we have 2 in. We need 3 more to make it work.

I just wanted to share the savings with a few of us MM builders from the local western area. This will be a one time deal. We need to get 3 more people in. The quote is good for 30 days.

Cheers,

~Travis

Hi Joe! Cool. I still have not purchased the lasercut sets yet as there is no rush for me and there is plenty to do on the project in other areas to wait and get the deal on a group buy. So depending on the interests here locally I'm still willing to get them cut. So far that makes you the 3rd person. Need two fella's to get it going. Thanks for chiming in and just keep me posted on your time requirements.

Hi Joe...I bought all my steel at Everett Steel. They list their available profiles online at www.everettsteel.com which is helpful if you want to do some preplanning.

Not sure if their prices are the best since I didn't shop around, but I like dealing with them and they're open Saturdays.

Everett Steel has good prices and is local with good service. Here is a list that I use here.

American Steel
Farwest
Everett Steel
Morse Steel
Summerville
Tacoma Steel
EMJ
Metal Shorts
Online Metals
Metal Supermarket

McMaster-carr when I'm in a pinch.

I'm in.

I just sent Travis an e-mail with a couple of questions which I will share with all here:

"The list does not include M5 10 312 (Universal Motor Plate) and M5 10 322 (Universal Z Motor Plate). I assume this is because you chose the geared motor plate options. Is this correct?

Also, does this include bending the parts or just the cutting?"

Last question for all, is anyone interested in sharing the grind head items to save a few bucks? Since we will each only need it once. One person can use it and pass it on to the next, etc. Just a thought.

As Gerald has pointed out elsewhere, the grind head requires the eccentric bushings. The bushings are used in the build, so unless someone wants to buy some extra bushings to dedicate to the skate, the skate will be incomplete.

I know it seems kind of a waste, but one skate per build is probably a reasonable solution.

You know what would be cool though, is to develop a catalog of bolt patterns for various grinders. Because I was having some trouble with my grinder, I took my skate to Harbor Freight trying it on each grinder, Cinderella style. Alas, the glass slipper didn't fit any of them.

Hey Jeff,

Have you found a Grinder to fit the skate yet? If not, take a look at this thread (http://www.mechmate.com/forums/showthread.php?p=20952&postcount=38).

As noted there, I got the Grinder at Lowe's. I only had to grind out a little steel from the standard skate with a Dremel tool to make it fit. It was already very close. I have a Dewalt grinder which would have taken a lot more modification to make it fit.

Jeff, the skate was initially designed for Bosch grinders.

...but, I found that my Ryobi from HomeDepot fit perfectly. Although, it's only a 4.5A motor, so grind with caution. I burned up one in the process. I purchased them on sale for 30 dollars for 2. So, it wasn't a painful loss :)

I have a Dewalt grinder that will fit the skate as well. If you are interested let me know and I will get the model number tonight when I am in the shop.

Hi Joe,

I chose the M5 10 314 and M5 10324 because most are going with the Geared motors. Would you guys rather have the Universal motor plates instead as Joe mentioned? These would be parts M5 10 312 (Universal Motor Plate) and M5 10 322 (Universal Z Motor Plate).

Yes, this includes the parts bent per drawing.

The grind plates only costs $27 to cut and bend at a rate of 5 sets. This is not significant for me to take off the list. If we only bought one to share it would cost someone $45, unless we split it 4 ways. Anyway I don't think it's a make or brake decision for me......

Do let me know on what you fella's want for the motor plates.

Thanks,
Travis

No, I am good with the decision on both the geared motor plates and the grinder plates. Just wanted to make sure everyone was OK with that. Let's go for it.

Sure, no prob. Sounds good. Looks like I will be receiving everyones payments next week. Good, then I'll be able to call my Vendor and give him the go to start cutting. I'm excited to get over this hurtle with the bent parts by going locally. Thanks to all that have joined up and are participating in the group buy.

Happy 4th to everyone!

Travis,
Are you planning on doing any more sets, or is this a one time group buy? Just wondering.

Travish
Tue 04 August 2009, 14:48
Originally, This was a one time deal, but…

If there are more people interested and I get 6 or more sets that people want, All I have to do is call them and say cut another batch. So if there is an interest, I would do another batch, but 6 is the minimum.

Thanks,
Travis

I have a set from the first order that I am not going to be able to use for at least a year. I don't want to hold on to the set for that long. The set is well made as seen in the photos in this thread. I will let it go for cost plus shipping or if in WA come pick it up. You can get it now and not wait for a second order.
