Good going there...I like the picture in post#4...on the pants the words FATAL....the person welding with bare feet....now THAT is maybe not fatal, but could be painful sometimes...:D
Are you sure you have enough space for the machine next to the house....when you have 2 x X-axis steppers hanging on there will it fit ?

Vladimir,
I like your Mill opereator. She looks like a good worker. She needs a stool so she can easily work on the Mill.
I thought I didn't have much space. Can you move around on each side with the motors on?

That is a funny looking spindle....to me it looks like a normal electrical motor with a collet? What make is that and how much did it cost ?

Vladimir, your pictures are a lot of help - especially the detailed washer assy pics, G' we need to have a construction gallery with subtopics covering the pictures of individual assemblies.

Are you going to run it at normal speed, or are you going to push its speed up with a Variable Frequency Drive?
Yes, Variable Frequency Driver....0~300hz- Max speed about 16900 rpm.
the cost here, about 210.00 USD

That is very interesting! Have you guys tried this before? What about the bearings? Can the rotor survive the centrifugal force? (Podemos sobreviver o rotor da força centrífuga?)
Kobus_Joubert
Tue 20 January 2009, 22:30
I will also following this NEW Spindle closely...did you have to modify it to take the collet or did it come like that ?
Gerald D
Tue 20 January 2009, 23:46
Kobus, a "spindle" is no more than a standard 3-phase motor with better bearings and a smaller diameter (longer length) rotor to stop it from flying apart at high speed.

Yes, I use it on my first router machine about two years, sometimes change the bearings by better quality.
it is a Siemens standard 3-phase motor 1HP 3420 rpm.

Thanks for the info Vladimir...looks like you are an old hand at this CNC thing.
Two more things..
1..did you put thread on the motor shaft ? or how did you fix your chuck ?
2.. How many millimeters / inches is that motor in diameter ?
Looked at your movie...what a sweet sound.

the motor shaft has a M5 hole, Put a screw inwards of chuck.
the diameter this motor is about 135mm.

Your video shows a fairly small cutter mounted on a standard AC motor and it cuts at quite a good speed . . . . . . very interesting. . . . .

Sun 25 January 2009, 22:01
Can you show us photos of the cutting quality you get on the edge of the MDF with a 6mm cutter when you cut about a 100mm diameter circle? People say those big motors are not good, but the end of your last video shows a very fast and controllable machine. The only question now is the cut quality.
How does it compare to this (http://www.mechmate.com/forums/showthread.php?p=109&postcount=1), where we had direct drive with a smaller motor?

Hello Gerald, I make a test of the circle and square. both 100mm with 6mm cutter and 2500mm/min.
the measures show me accuracy.

Thanks for the pictures. Is that maybe about the same as what we saw at 80 mm/second (4800 mm/minute) with the shorter motors? I know it is very difficult to compare by photographs alone.

Vladimir,
Congratulations on your build. Gerald as added your build to the Builder's Log.
The updated Builder's Log is here (http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pLoxg8wu4WnsBc2_U5yEaQw).
Please tell me how big your table is. For example what are the dimensions of the spoil board I see on your table?
Also, when did you actually start the build? Your first post was on 10-Jan-2009. But I think you had already been working on your MechMate before 10-Jan-2009.
Finally, you will notice that your entry is not bold and that you do not have a serial number. I think that you almost qualify for a Serial Number. I think you only need to add MechMate Logo's to qualify. Of course, Gerald is the one who makes the decision to award a Serial Number, but I wanted let you know how close you are to earning a Serial Number. I'm currently building a MechMate and when I get it completed, I will be anxious to earn a Serial Number.
Regards,
John

Vladmir I sometimes use the same principal, except I use small sticks 18" or so long. I have cut the ends off by mistake several times. If you continue this hold-down method you will too. All I needed to do was cut more sticks. What will you need to do ???????????????????? :(
Nice cutting machine :)

Hi Vladimir,
I'm curios how Linear Guideway takes the forces when you cut material like wood for example? Does those guideways resist in time and for how long ?
Because when you cut along X and Y axis there are a lot of force in order to push through material.
Thank you,
Marius

Mon 02 March 2009, 07:47
Marius, you question is about linear guide that I use in my Z axis?
My linear guide of the 20mm:
charge= dynamic capacity is 14.1 KN
charge =static capacity is 24 KN
