Today is our wedding anniversary; she got to lie by the pool, I got to painting one wall each in the TV & dining rooms and the kitchen. It's a tough schedule us guys have to keep to . . .

First and more importantly, Congrats Gerald! I've had 25 wonderful years of marriage, and my wife has had something close to that with me ;) ... I wish you many more happy years!

This may be off topic, but if two Z carriers were used, what would be an appropriate way to hook up dust hoses? Over the side of the car around the Y axis frame?

Uit die tannie se mond: "Jou m03r!"

Congrats Sean. Being so close after Xmas, there is a risk of forgetting the date. . . . I've done it once . . . . . after the year in which she forgot! :D

Jack, dust hoses for twin Z's are a major headache - they have to fight for space with the y-motor or with the y-cable chain. (They cannot pass outside the y-car. between the gantry tubes without reducing the y-travel)

Lex, het jy geweet dat getroude mans langer lewe as ongetroude mans . . . . . . . maar getrouded mans is meer gewillig om dood te gaan?

(Did you know that married men live longer than unmarried men . . . . . . but married men are more willing to die?)

Baie geluk Hennie en Caroline! Ten minste raak dit beter elke jaar aan die vrou se kant!:D Die man bly maar net 'confused'.

Wed 21 January 2009, 07:00
I want to add my congratulations to all those celebrating wedding anniversaries. And especially to Hennie, "Thanks for sharing a photo of you and your wife." This forum is already very special and sharing YOUR personal family with the Forum Family just makes it even more special.

Now to add to the fun. Each time I see some Afrikaans language on the Forum that I can't figure out by looking at the context, I try AGAIN to find a translator. I'm afraid I'm limited to a SINGLE language.

So, I found a "FREE" translator and translated Johan's congratulations to Hennie. Here's what I got.

very luck hennie and caroline! at least get/touch it better every years at the womans side ! the man stay/glad but just 'confused'. ...

Now, I know "free" translators are notoriously literal and not sensitive to the context. So, given the context, my augmented translation of Johan's message is this:

Good luck Hennie and Caroline! At least it gets better with the years at the woman's side. The man is happy, but also "confused".:D

Am I anywhere close? Can you suggest a GOOD "free" Afrikaans to English and English to Afrikaans translator?

Regards,
John

I still need to put up my hand if I want to say something.:D

Wed 21 January 2009, 11:50
The colloquialism around here for that is, "I can't get a word in edge-wise."

Lex
Wed 21 January 2009, 21:52
John,
Your translation program is not to far out. The 'happy' in the man's sentence doesn't exist. :D I will make a point from now on to put the English in brackets. It is a lot easier than any translation program.
Hennie, verskooning aan die vrou, ek het haar naam verkeerd. My vrou is Caroline. (Apology to your wife. I had her name wrong. My wife's name is Caroline)

Gerald D
Wed 21 January 2009, 22:40
The "bly" could have been "happy" (but not in that context)

Ek is bly - I am happy.
