Hi, What kind of speed are th motors running at(RPM) on the mechmate? I've been reading about the cutting speed of geralds machine being up to 3600mm pr. min (7200mm pr. min for shallow straights). I've also been reading up on the pitch and how that works out, however I'm having a hard time making head and tail of it all. Is it correct that the gear ration gives one inch pr. motor revolution, thus 7200mm ~ 280" pr. min = 4 2/3" pr. sec or 4 2/3 RPS (or 280RPM)? What about jog speed? The reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to find cheap motor and driver alternatives. If the vextras are being run in unipolar/half winding give high enough torque there are relatively cheap motors out there that will give the same torque in bipolar. If the required RPM is relatively low using bipolar series may be an alternative which does not require such a high ampere for the drivers which opens up the possibility to use fairly inexpensive drivers. If the speed requirement is higher, then there are still motors that can be run in parallel and give the same torque as the vextras in unipolar and are half the price. |

Hi all, Gerald., Can’t seem to find posts on the MechMate speed ( ipm) subject. I’d like to know more on the possibilities of its cutting & transient speed capabilities of a tipical MechMate set up. Don’t get me wrong here, I’m not hopping to get anything like this “Tim Allen type” worthless supersonic speed !! No…no, just curious on what to expect and hopping to find out more & the how on the ipm achievable? Thanks, Robert |

Robert, A search of (ips) will find the topics. Never have been sure which to quote - IPS or IPM I use 7.2 reduction and a 35 tooth pinion. It will surface the spoilboard at 400 ipm At 575 ipm it loses steps. The Mechmate is able to cut much faster than I am comfortable with. DocTanner |
