Was asked in another thread: "How do you compare the cutting quality of Mechmate to other machines which have price tags in the range of US $ 50,000 (Servo driven THK ball screws)." Let me try and describe it this way.... Here in Cape Town we are now "competing" against a couple of other companies with mostly MultiCams well over $50 000. If customers come here to cut plastic or metal we send them to the "opposition". They send us the guys who want MDF cut. We have lost a really tiny amount of guys who wanted a better finish, but a lot of those came back to us again. Apparently their finish is also not mirror smooth. We charge about the same hourly rates and so the price is not a factor in keeping our customers happy. I am sure the expensive machines can do better than us on really heavy/hard materials. I am sure we do much better at paying off the bank manager's loan. |

For Acrylic cutting upto 6 mm thickness how do you compare your machine with the opposition. I have received a few inquiries from boat manufacturers. They want us to cut the interior panelling for them. What sort of a hourly rate should we charge for this type of work. They at the moment get their work done in Holland. Also do you know of a good source to buy marine ply at competititive rates. Can we use the mechmate to cut the Hull structures of boats. |

Here is an example of what is done by similar machines (3.6:1 ratio, Geckos, Mach). Our hourly rate, in a country where $2/hour is minimum wage, is about $40 to $50 per hour. Good, cheap marine ply is a contradiction. Some stuff looks good on the outside, but the inside is rotten. Our clients have to supply their own ply - and we still check each sheet for marks or oil stains so that the customer doesn't blame us later. (sometimes the forklift is dirty at some harbour or something). Can the MechMate cut boat hull structures....? THIS is where it all started! The MechMate is absolutely perfect for cutting boat hull structures. Here is my son's prelim website. |
